Surendra Kumar completed his Master of Laws (LLM) from SOAS University of London as British Chevening Scholar specializing in international law and human rights. He graduated from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow with distinction. He holds the degree of Master of Philosophy in International Legal Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
He has been a Judge for International Rounds of the Price Media Law Moot Court Competition at the University of Oxford) and North-East Europe Rounds of Price Media Law Moot Court Competition in Kyiv from 21 to 23 December 2016. He is Principal Indian Reporter for Oxford Reports on International Law in Domestic Courts (ILDC). As a reporter, he contextualizes the use, misuse, and disuse of international law by Courts in their interpretative exercise. The cases deal with varied subjects such as international maritime law, environmental law, sovereign immunity, international criminal law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law. He has written and published over 35 cases including the cases on right to privacy, transgenders, triple talaq, legalization of euthanasia, legality of Aadhar, decriminalization of homosexuality, among others.
His interest lies at the intersection of Constitutional Law and Philosophy, Public International Law, Comparative Constitutional Law, intellectual history and global political thought.
