Parvathi Balachandran is an Assistant Professor of Law (Sr. Scale) and has almost a decade’s experience in the field. Prior to taking up the current position, she has taught at the Mar Gregorios College of Law, under the aegis of the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. During her stint there, she was convenor of the First National Law Reform Competition for Law Students, 2017 on Draft Uniform Civil Code for India and worked in collaboration with the Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy and Training (MILAT). She has organized several workshops, conferences and lectures. She has presented papers in national and international conferences and has published articles in peer-reviewed journals. She has experience both teaching and supervising LL.M students for their dissertations. Her areas of teaching include gender and the law, child and the law, law and social change, human rights, public international law and constitutional law. She has collaborated with NGOs on research and advocacy projects. She is currently interested in creating learning material on constitutional rights and duties, for children. She has graduated from the Government Law College, Chennai and has majored in public international law from the University of Kerala, securing the first rank. She is also recipient of the Cullen Law Prize and Sadashivan Pillai Law Prize. Before foraying into academics, she worked as a law associate for three years in Chennai (High Court).
