On March 15, 2023, the NSS unit and the Centre for Women and Child Welfare Policy (CWCWP) of Ramaiah College of Law, in collaboration with the Karnataka State Martial Arts Federation, hosted a workshop on "Self-Defence for Women." Held at the Quadrangle of the college, this event aimed to equip female law students with practical self-defence techniques to enhance their confidence and safety.
The workshop began with an inauguration led by distinguished guests, including martial arts trainers Miss Harshita and Mr. Sundeep, along with key faculty members. The session featured an address by Ms. Keerthana, emphasizing the importance of self-defence skills in combating rising crime rates against women.
Participants learned several self-defence techniques, such as the Rule of Thumb, Double Ear Slap, and Bear Hug Escape. These techniques were demonstrated and practiced in an interactive format, allowing students to gain hands-on experience. The session also covered sensitive pressure points like the throat, ears, nose, and eyes, providing effective defensive strategies. The workshop's success was marked by its interactive nature, which boosted participants' confidence and provided them with practical skills for real-world scenarios. The commitment of both the institution and professional trainers highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and safety.
