Prof. Umamahesh Sathyanarayan

 

Prof. Umamahesh Sathyanarayan graduated from the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. At the law school, he was conferred numerous legal accolades including the Chancellor’s Gold Medal awarded by Justice A.K. Sikri for Best Overall Performance in B.A.LL.B (Hons.) program and KTS Tulsi Gold Medal for Criminal Procedure Code. He was given the Young Achiever Award by Rotary Club, Chikamagalur, Karnataka.

Prof. Umamahesh obtained MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford in 2011. Later, he was awarded the British Chevening Scholarship to study LL.M. in Computer and Communications Law at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). Recently, he has completed his doctoral studies submission from National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. He has co-authored a chapter in Text Book of Public International Law and has published in various journals. The most recent is a research paper co-authored with Professor Chris Reed titled ‘Beyond Bitcoin – legal impurities and off-chain assets’ in International Journal of Law and Information Technology, Oxford University Press 2018.

Prof. Umamahesh worked as a Research Assistant to Professor Chris Reed at QMUL in the Microsoft sponsored, Cloud Legal Project collaborated by Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London and the Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge. He has also worked as a Legal Research Assistant with the Centre for Child and Law at NLSIU, Bangalore, in a project funded by Child Rights and You (CRY) and Tata Trust. Prof.Umamahesh has worked as a Partner in the law offices of Acharya and Haranahalli, Karnataka. He was involved in advising companies, government organisations, and PSUs and has assisted Senior Advocate Sri. Ashok Haranahalli. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Law Trainee under Justice D.K Jain, Judge, Supreme Court of India. He was an Adjunct Faculty at the School of Law, Christ University and visiting faculty at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, and National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam.
