VISIT TO ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY NGO
On December 26, 2023, students from the APD-RCL Center for Disability Law and Policy visited the Association of People with Disability NGO in Bengaluru, guided by Mr. Badal Chatterjee. APD, committed to empowering people with disabilities, emphasized their active involvement in decision-making processes regarding policies and interventions. Welcomed by Ms. Prerna, Ms. Bhumika, and Mr. Babu, the students learned about accessibility, legal provisions for the disabled, and the daily challenges faced by people with disabilities. They toured the premises, including the Shradhanjali Integrated School with inclusive facilities, and witnessed APD's manufacturing unit producing aids like wheelchairs and prosthetic legs, with 45% of workers being persons with disabilities. This experience deepened the students' understanding of disability issues, fostering empathy and highlighting the importance of inclusive practices. Overall, it was an enriching and eye-opening experience for all involved.
