LENS WORKSHOP-1
On June 25, 2024, the APD-RCL Centre for Disability Law and Policy at Ramaiah College of Law conducted the LENS Workshop, guided by Mr. Badal Chatterjee. Fifteen dedicated students organized simultaneous sessions for fourth and fifth-year students, focusing on disability awareness and accessibility. The workshop began with fundamental explanations of disability concepts, delved into the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, and featured an engaging PowerPoint presentation. The highlight was a quiz and interactive "Huddle" sessions, where students participated in activities like writing without using their thumbs and playing "Simon Says" with wheelchair prompts, fostering empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by people with disabilities.
The workshop also included a data collection initiative, asking students to photograph public spaces to aid in developing an accessibility app. The sessions were seamlessly executed across various law programs and wrapped up before the short break at 11:00 am. The LENS Workshop was a resounding success, effectively educating students on inclusivity and inspiring them to take actionable steps towards creating accessible environments. This collaboration between APD and Ramaiah College of Law emphasized that accessibility is a fundamental right, not a charity.
