An Inter Disciplinary Disquisition – Violence against Women- Demystifying the Psychological Dimensions
To commemorate the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, 2021 IQAC at RCL, Bengaluru on 25 th November, 2021 invited Dr. Arun. B. Nair, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram to address upon the Psychological dimensions of the phenomenon of Violence against Women. The programme was organized from 11 a.m. to 12.30 a.m in the online mode using the Zoom link.
The welcome address was made by Dr. Anuja.S Associate Professor (Law) and IQAC Coordinator. Prof Rose Varghese, Director (Academics) and Dr. Omprakash Principal (I/C) graced the occasion. Around 135 participants including students and faculty of RCL attended the programme.
The speaker was an erudite speaker and a proficient researcher in the field having authored around 18 books in the field. The expert discourse touched upon the different explanatory models about violence against women .The distinctiveness of the talk was that it outlined the psychological underpinnings from an abuser’s perspective which is rarely discussed upon. The talk was impressive and was well appreciated by the audience. The talk inspired and motivated the students and faculty at RCL, to delve deep into the interdisciplinary understandings of the issue. There was a question and answer session for about 20 minutes towards the end of the talk.
